New Year's in the Mountains of Midway

Our little family has great family and friends.  Kind loved ones who share neat experiences with us.

To our amazement and gratitude, over the years our family has been fortunate to be the beneficiaries of this generosity, time and again.

Because of these kind friends, we have had moments like this:

And this:

And this:

How immensely grateful I am that others share with us.  Makes me so determined to do the same.  To share my blessings and in turn bless others.

Well, over New Year's we were again blessed to enjoy other's blessings.  This time it was thanks to the kindness of our dear friends, the Maughans.

They invited us up to their family cabin in Midway to ring in the New Year.  And man alive, it was heaven!  Especially after losing Trev's dad, it felt good to get away from everything and rejuvenate in the mountains among friends and laughter.

Here is how we spent the majority of our time.
1. Playing games.
2. Sledding/or some version of playing the snow.
3. Watching movies.
4. Eating.  Eating. Eating. :)

Got to love that old Nintendo...remember those??!!  Mario brothers...duck hunt...Oh yeah!

The men spent quite a lot of time building a safe sledding track for the kids because they kept sliding into the scrub oak trees.  They also added a jump at the bottom which became quite an attraction for kids and adults alike.

You've got to love a kid's amazement at nature.  She HAD to show me this tiny pine cone she found in the snow.  How good kids are at appreciating even the smallest details of God's workmanship.

I don't know about your family but our outside adventures are not complete without this afterward:

Jake doesn't get much of this in our house with all sisters, so I am always so grateful he has "brothers" across the street. :)

What a great time we had.  Thank you Maughans!!!

On our way back, we stopped to visit Trev's dad's grave.

Reality can be such a hard thing to come back to sometimes.  We were happy to have a break from it.

What a welcomed 2014.  We were happy to have 2013 behind us.
