Two things are becoming synonamous in our house...fall and SOCCER! This year we have both Morgan and Jake playing and Trev still coaching Morgan's team. Here's the skinny on both teams. :)
Introducing...THE BLUEBERRIES! Or Blue Sparkles...The girls are still trying to decided which team name they want. :) It's a tough decision, I know! So at each game we cheer for both names...this last game they even were combined...GO SPARKLY BLUEBERRIES! :)
Team Roster: Brooklyn Daly, Faith Taioealli, Christa Lewis, Alex Belshe, Morgan Lighten, Kelsey Fitzgerald, Taylor Farley, Sara Stott, and Kylie Olsen. Coach: Trevor Lighten
Assistant Coach: Brett Fitzgerald
Here is our little Soccer Star herself, my sweet Morgan Lea! She has already had a great year...she runs really hard, cheers on her teammates, and has even scored 3 goals so far this season! When she first started playing last year, on her first game she was doing cartwheels in the field while the other kids played! :) She has never been a super-competitive type, so we had to encourage/practice with her on getting in there and getting the ball. Since then, she has just continued to get better...and more aggressive! :) Yesterday, in her soccer game she scored one of her goals...afterward, I told her I was really proud of her for trying so hard and thought it was SO cool that she scored a goal as a result. She simply replied, "Well mom, when you try your best, good things happen." Wait...I am the mom, I am supposed to be the one throwing out those inspirational cliches! She is wise beyond her years. :)
This team has been particularly fun this year because it consists of all girls in our neighborhood. They all live right around the corner from each other, play together at home, and even go to church and school together! We love our neighborhood and love seeing our kids building friendships that they will remember. They are all great girls and so sweet to one another. They are all having so much fun playing together on this team...I hope it never changes. :)
GO Sideline Cheerleaders!
Go get it girls!
ON TO THE PURPLE LIGHTENING!
This is Jake's first year of soccer! His team is the Purple Lightening. He is LOVING it..and he's pretty good too! He is also on a team with boys his age, mostly from our neighborhood. It is so cute to see him making new friends and getting closer with all the buddies he already knew. Just like Morgan, he runs hard...however, unlike Morgan, we never had to teach this kid to be aggressive. :) He has no hesitation to get right in there and go for the ball. In his very first game, he scored 2 goals! I think his grand total so far is 4! He is a very good dribbler, and has got a big boot too. But mostly he is just loving playing...he asks me about every day when he gets to play soccer again. :) He loves his coach (Isaac Childs) and all his little teammates. Some of his teammates include, Luke Maughan, Mason Whiting, Jake Baker, Asher Childs, Austin Heilner, Grant Tingey, and Carson. These boys are so fun to watch!
Do you love his sparkley cheeks??? At Morgan's game they always put little silver sparkles on their cheeks. Jake wanted in on the action too, but he went for purple to match his uniform. About 2 mins after they were put on and I snapped a pic, he said he wanted to know where the baby wipes were to wipe them off. I told him they were in the car. Once he got to the car, he told my sister to take them off...she asked him why he didn't want to leave them on? He replied in his unusually low voice, "I don't want my friends to see me looking like a girl!" They learn young. :)
GO BUDDY!
I truly love soccer season. I love how sports builds my kids' self-esteem and encourages them to exercise! Trev and I both feel that one aspect of a happy life is to be healthy. To live a healthy lifestyle is something we are striving to teach our kids and I just love how soccer has supported us in that. LOVE Soccer!
